We headed to Cyfac’s facility in the Loire to learn more about the construction of custom carbon frames.
It’s a process far removed from the mass production, monocoque approach of the Far East, and one that draws on Cyfac’s heritage as a custom frame builder to the peloton of the 1980s and 1990s.
The modest unit in the Loire has turned out frames for Fignon, Pantani, and Chiappucci to name but three.
Now, with the peloton dominated by the bicycle industry’s giants, and Asian manufacture, Cyfac specialise in custom frames for private clients.
“I tell my customers, you will have a better bike than the winner of the Tour de France,” says managing director, Ameryc Le Brun.
