RoadCyclingUK has become the media partner of sportive event organisers, Southern Sportive.
The company holds eleven road and CX sportives each year, attracting a combined participation of some 8,000 riders. RoadCyclingUK will feature previews and reports of nine events from Southern Sportives’ 2012 calendar.
Southern Sportive founder, Phil Harrison, welcomed the partnership.
“Our focus has always been on quality, and in RoadCyclingUK we have a media partner with an identical outlook. Many of the people who already take part in our sportives visit RoadCyclingUK, and we hope that many more will be inspired by their coverage of our events to take on another challenge in 2012,” he said.
The Southern Sportive event, the original South Downs cyclo-sportive and one of the very first in the south of England, will take place for the seventh time this September, taking riders through the beautiful Hampshire and Sussex countryside.
And its organisers will remain in the vanguard of mass participation cycle events this year, pioneering an innovative new even format for the Wight Riviera Sportive, that includes a 25km start loop on closed roads.
After their final CX sportive of the winter on the South Downs on March 10, Southern Sportive’s road season will start on April 1 with The Joker, an event described by the organisers as “an enticingly different sportive”, starting from Salisbury Race Course.
The “imaginative and challenging course” includes a number of feature hills and challenges, including the legendary 1:4 cobbles of Gold Hill in Shaftesbury, made famous by its inclusion in the Hovis television commercial.
“We’ll be there to bring you all the action, alongside bike and nutrition partners Wilier and Torq. We hope you’ll join us!” said Southern Sportive’s Martin Harrison.
