Going against forecast, a sleet and snow shower on the morning of Sunday 14th February forced the abandonment of the Sydenham Wheelers reliability trial. By the time the first riders attempting the 107km route were due to start, a thin layer of snow and slush had settled and partially frozen, making even walking across the car park of Knockholt village hall hazardous.
With the route making a circuit of Kent south of Maidstone, the direction from which the weather was coming, the decision was made to postpone the event.
It will now take place on 7 March with headquarters located as usual at the village hall in Knockholt, north of Sevenoaks. Two distances, 107km and 64km, are on offer with riders opting for the longer ride setting off from 0900hrs.
