Don't... underestimate the challenge
Don't... underestimate the challenge
Having entered a sportive, it’s time to ensure you’re ready to tackle the challenge that awaits. That means getting on the bike and putting the miles in. Easy, right? That’s what we’re all here for, after all.
As a rule of thumb, you should be able to ride two-thirds of your event distance in training. If you’re looking to tackle a 50-mile sportive, that means 33-mile training rides, or if you’re planning a century ride, get 105km under your belt.
Remember, if you regularly ride in training, then you’ll have others to share the workload with in a sportive, and the buzz of the day (and a healthy dose of suffering) will invariably get you over the line providing you pace your ride right. If you need further training advice then check out our coaching section.
Also, if you’ve got a big event planned this summer (whether that’s a 100-mile sportive, or a major ride like the Dragon Ride or Etape du Tour), enter a smaller sportive in the build-up so you can put your training into practice before the main event.
