The 2013 Moor 2 Sea Sportive will include a timed climb up Devon’s infamous Haytor ascent, which will also be used as a summit finish in this year’s edition of the Tour of Britain.
The sportive will take place on Saturday September 7, with stage six of the Tour of Britain set to take place less than two weeks later on Friday September 20.
The sportive will offer three routes, starting and finishing at Exeter Racecourse, including a 37-mile ‘Inspire’ route (3,000 feet of climbing) added ahead of this year’s edition.
The existing ‘Challenge’ (65 miles with 6,600 feet of climbing) and ‘Extreme’ (112 miles with 11,000 feet of ascent) routes have been revised for 2013, owing to construction work for the new Kingskerswell Bypass, but Haytor remains on both routes and riders will be timed on the six kilometre climb, which averages six per cent.
It was on the climb that Devon-born rider Jonathan Tiernan-Locke, riding for Rapha-Condor-Sharp at the time, made a lone attack to kick-start his bid for the King of the Mountains prize in the 2011 Tour of Britain. Tiernan-Locke then won the 2012 race before joining Team Sky.
