There are few people who know more about the art of endurance cycling than round-the-world record holder, Mike Hall – and you could ride with him on Friday (August 1).
Hall, who, in 2012, averaged nearly 200 miles-a-day to smash the world record for circumnavigating the globe by bicycle, will ride out at 3pm from Brighton’s new VeloCafe at The Level for a two-hour jaunt across the South Downs.
The Cardiff rider has since made another significant addition to his palmares by winning the inaugural TransAm cycle race – a self-supported, 4,406-mile race across North America – which he completed last month in 18 days.
Friday’s ride across the South Downs is free, and among the riders will be Ed Pickup, who finished third in the TransAm race – some feat, given an age gap of 10 years between himself and Hall. Both riders competed on Pivot Bicycles.
An evening event at the VeloCafe will follow the afternoon ride, in which Mike and Ed will discuss the TransAm race, its challenge, and the equipment they used. Entry is free, but numbers are limited to 60 people. Mike will also discuss his next project: the Trans Continental bike race, which leaves London on Saturday August 9, 2014.
