The year’s second Shropshire Devil sportive rolls out of Shrewsbury next month, with three routes available.
Held annually in March, the success of the Shropshire Devil has prompted organisers to launch the Shropshire Devil 2 – which will combine the successful of the West Midlands sportive and take it into the Welsh mountainside across the border.
All three routes – 55 miles, 77 miles and 115 miles – head west out of Shrewsbury and cross the border along quiet, fully way-marked country roads.
The shorter distance takes in 662 metres of steady climbing over the professionally-timed 55-mile route.
The other two routes, meanwhile, take the riders into the Welsh mountains, the 77-mile option packing in 1,215 metres of climbing – including Winllan Hill.
The 115-mile route will see riders tackle 2,660 metres worth of ascending with Winllan hill, Cwn Sian Llwyd and the Bwich-y-Groes.
Feed stations will be included on the route, with food supplied courtesy of the Drovers Rest restaurant alongside the usual array of energy products.
A broom wagon and full medical support will also feature.
Registration for the sportive costs £25, with riders encouraged to register in advance due to the anticipated demand for places.
