Stylish apparel brand Vulpine have announced a new event to build upon the success of their popular cycling fetes, with the first Vulpine Cyclogames to take place in Hackney on Sunday December 8.
The London-based clothing company, the new co-sponsors of the On The Drops women’s cycling team, have previously organised a series of fetes – including a French-themed affair on Bastille Day this year – but have said they want to be more ambitious this time out.
Billed as ‘silly cycling competitions to be taken slightly seriously’, the event, to be held in the Oval Space by the Regent’s Canal, will take place from 12pm to 6pm and features a host of activities.
Vulpine hope the event will be ‘something for everyone’ and ‘vibrant and involving – not just a bunch of stalls’.
Activities on offer, for adults only unless otherwise stated, include a Brompton folding competition, a track stand championships and Rollapaluza short course sprints.
Entries for competitions including ‘incredibly beautiful bicycle’, ‘awesome cycling photograph’ and ‘finest cycling illustration’ – the latter two also being open to kids – are being taken now.
Competitions including ‘best cake ever’, ‘sartorially superb cyclist’ and ‘most impressive quads’ will be open for entries on the day.
Celebrity judges include Kenny van Vlaminck, Ned Boulting, Matt Stephens, Michael Smiley and Nemone Metaxas, while the Maccabees will also perform a DJ set.
The event will raise money for London cycling charities Wheel for Wellbeing, Herne Hill Velodrome and Rollapalunza Outreach, and free bike parking will be provided on-site.
Exhibitors will include Donhou Bikes, Drops Photography and The Handmade Cyclist illustrations.
