Recent snowfall has only enlivened the prospect of this Sunday’s Wildwood CX Sportive in Woodcote, Oxfordshire, with the event organisers promising a classic British winter’s ride.
The cyclo-cross sportive is the second event in the three-ride series and the organisers have mapped out a fast-paced and varied course which will switch regularly from tarmac to dirt throughout the 40, 60 and 80km route choices through.
“The mixed terrain course design opens it up to all sorts of different bikes: great for cyclo-cross bikes and 29ers, ideal for a fast mountain bike or a capable hybrid, and, at a push, even your winter road hack could tackle it with a change of tyres,” said organiser Martin Harrison.
The event will be fully signposted, with a manned feed and support station, ride timing, free Torq energy drink and full catering at the event HQ.
Harrison added: “It feels like we’ve had the full range of winter weather in the last month now, and that’s just why we developed the CX Sportive.”
“It’s in these conditions that pure road riding gets pretty grim, and road events start to get cancelled. But CX just gets more fun as the variety of surfaces changes. The course is designed with this weather in mind, and for bikes that can handle the mix. It’s how winter riding should be!”
Entry costs £15 for the 40km routes, and £19 for the 60km and 80km course. Visit www.cxsportive.com for more information.
