Picture the scene – the bottom of a contentious, amusing, interesting or otherwise engaging thread. Your brain is bursting with a killer contribution, and the blank Message: box is calling to you. Your fingers dance over the keys, committing your genius to pixels. A flick and a click of the mouse and it’s done.
And then you read what you’ve written and realise that you’ve made a hideous spelling mistake, or got someone’s name wrong or screwed up the punchline. It happens to the best of us. But fear not, for the RCUK tech elves have come up with a handy new Edit feature.
From now on, after you’ve posted you’ll see a new link under the post saying “Edit Message”. Click that and you’ll get a new text box with your existing message in it, letting you sort it out and resubmit.
Obviously there’d be the possibility of wholesale untrammelled forum revisionism if that was all it did, but it’s slightly cleverer than that – the Edit Message link will go away after ten minutes unless no-one replies to it, in which case it’ll stick around until someone does. Once you’ve clicked it you’ve got another twenty minutes to submit your corrections. Edited posts get appended with a message so everyone else knows when it was changed.
It’s all clever stuff – have a play and get the hang of it. And if you haven’t used the forum yet, you’ve missed out bigtime – hit the Forum tab up the top of the page, or go straight to the latest threads
