Mudguard convert

Are mudguards really that bad?

I wrote last winter about the joy of mudguards, which came about after the timely realisation that their benefits just about outweigh my aesthetic concerns.

For me, personally, mudguards always spoil the clean lines of a road bike. And so I’ve largely avoided them. Yes, yes, I’m fully aware of the benefits (dry bum, clean jacket etc) but having to buy another road bike specifically for winter that is capable of taking full length mudguards? It’s not really for me.

And it’s true, there have been clip-on mudguards available for some time but, my god, they look even more terrible than traditional mudguards. Thankfully, there is now another way for us cyclists who want the benefits of mudguards without the hassle, cost, inconvenience and ugliness of needing a second bike.

Crud’s ingenious Roadracer mudguards are so elegant in their simplicity and minimalism. Weighing very little, affixing to much any standard road bike with effortless ease, and providing decent levels of protection from spray, they are ideal if you only want to have one road bike, if you only can afford one bike or if you don’t have space for a specific winter bike.

I guess I’m now a mudguard convert.
