Gloves
In the past some parts of the UK are hit by a final bout of snow at this time of year, as winter rears its ugly head one last time.
Other years will prove far kinder but with early-morning temperatures still down into single figures, it’s cool enough to warrant a light, full-fingered glove.
There’s no shortage of options but we’ve used the Galibier Roubaix Vision gloves extensively since they were sent to RoadCyclingUK HQ last year. They’re lightweight and made from a fleece-lined Super Roubaix which provides a level of insulation suitable for mid-season temperatures. They’re not waterproof (nor water resistant) but they retain warmth better on cool, damp rides than if riding with bare hands.
The fit is excellent, with plenty of stretch in the fabric, and there’s no shortage of grip on the palm. The Super Roubaix material is light enough to ensure the rider retains plenty of feel on the handlebar and controls, and the gloves take up only half a jersey pocket if, as is likely to be the case once you get into May, the temperature sufficiently warms to ride without gloves.
