If you fancy reading the thoughts of Robert Millar while stuffing newspaper into your cycling shoes to dry them after a day of wet weather riding, look no further.
Vulpine have joined forces with the Newspaper Club to produce a paper for a task that may take longer than originally planned given the cyclist-specific reading matter.
The publishers – Nicky Hussey’s cycle clothing brand and a service helping people to produce their own newspapers – described Millar’s inclusion in their Shoe Drying Kit as “a huge honour”.
“The Shoe Drying Kit is a lovely newspaper of stories inspired by optimism and cycling in the rain,” Hussey explained.
The illustrated, 32-page newspaper, which Vulpine jokingly claim is made from paper “specially chosen to yield the correct amount of absorption”, will be launched at today’s Francais Vulpine Cycling Fete at The Lion pub in Teddington.
It will also be available free of charge at Vulpine stockists and sent with Vulpine orders to customers ordering the brand’s clothing.
Contributors include former national road race champion, Matt Stephens, a presenter on ITV4’s coverage of the Tour of Britain, Carolyn Roberts, creative director at The Observer, and Dan Germain, head of creative at drinks brand, Innocent. Designers, Anthony Burrill and Ben Terrett, are also involved.
The Vulpine Cycling Fete starts at 12pm today. Kinoko Cycles will be among those exhibiting, alongside custom frame builders, Engima, Rusby, and Saffron, and cycling illustrator, Rich Michelson.
