Eddy Merckx – Heads for Cycle 2006

Eddy Merckx will be at the show on Saturday October 7 and visitors to the Cycle Show will be invited to ask Eddy a question about his life and cycling career in a Q&A session in the afternoon. The Belgian bicycle racer won the world amateur cycling championship in 1964 and became world professional champion in 1967. He won the Tour de France five times (1969–72, 1974) and it has been estimated that Eddy rode up to 30,000 miles a year in training and competition.

The experience gained in those thousands of miles of training, and the passion that they represent, has gone into the design and production of the Eddy Merckx range of cycles that will be displayed on the fk:marketing stand – K10 – with brand new models for 2007.

Eddy will be joined by homegrown talent Roger Hammond who will also be at the show on Saturday. Roger Hammond was the British Road champion in 2003 and 2004 and won two stages of the Tour of Britain this year. Since the beginning of 2005, Roger has ridden for the Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team but it was recently announced that he will ride for the T-Mobile Cycling Team in 2007.

Fellow GB cyclist Bradley Wiggins will also be at the show to present the Cyclesafer Challenge, a Transport for London initiative that encourages young people across London to think about cycling safely. Over 800 8-10 year olds entered the competition and designed safety posters and cycling gadgets and the shortlisted pupils will be at the show to receive their awards.

The Show takes place at ExCeL, London on October 6-8. Tickets cost £12 on the door or £10 in advance and kids go for a quid. Visit www.cycleshow.co.uk or call 0870 126 1786 to book yours now.
