Evans sponsor Richard McCourt

Richard McCOURT

Richard McCourt is on a mission

Bafta award-winning children’s presenter Richard McCourt (Dick of Dick & Dom fame) is proving he’s no big kid! The kids TV star is cycling on an Evans Cycles-supplied Specialized Allez Triple, riding more than 285 miles from London to Paris on August 30, to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

McCourt will ride through the English countryside and cross the channel by ferry from Dover, before reaching the French mainland. After passing picturesque French villages, medieval towns and completing a tour of historic battlefields, he’ll arrive in Paris, crossing the finish line beneath the Eiffel Tower.

“I love cycling, travelling and exploring,” said McCourt. “I’ve had a lot of support so far with this trip, and Evans Cycles have kindly donated one of their latest bikes for my training and the journey. The London to Paris bike ride is a great opportunity to stretch myself while helping an important cause.”

McCourt has been putting himself through a rigorous training regime to reach top fitness for the race. “I’ve been in serious training around the parks of Manchester, where I live,” he said. “Four days in the saddle and cycling up to 80 miles a day – it’s not going to be child’s play!”

The cause is close to McCourt’s heart – he has a family member affected with dementia. “I know from first-hand experience how the Alzheimer’s Society supports those with the disease. They provide carers information and advice and fund research into a cure for this devastating condition.”
