Meet the Glider

We’ve just had a sneak preview of CycleFit’s new ‘off the peg’ bike. It has come about because they were dissatisfied with existing race bike geometry, so they decided to set about designing a frame to suit their philosophy that: ‘Comfortable cyclists ride further, faster and with less likelihood of injury’. They also wanted a bike that doesn’t cost a fortune. Their long association with Ben Serotta has given them important insight into custom fitting and manufacturing – Glider is the result.

The frame has taken well over a year of intesive R&D to get to the point that designers Phil Cavell and Julian Wall were happy it met the right design criteria and hit price point. They’ve opted for a Serotta-built Columbus Niobium triple-butted, air-hardened steel for the frame and a Columbus full carbon fork – it’s a pretty competitive package.

So what sets it apart from most bikes? Well (without getting into too much detail) the Glider features a slightly sloping top tube and extended head tube allows for a higher bar position, with a shorter top tube and a higher BB you’re looking at a more upright position.

As Phil Cavell says:

“For many riders new to cycling, it’s hard to find a really good quality bike that fits them. Many of our customers are reluctant to invest a lot of money in the custom route straight away, so the Glider allows them a more ‘comfortable’ alternative”

They are also working on a winter trainer and a TT bike too. A Glider test on RCUK soon.
