Tour of Britain 2014: preview

The route and the contenders set for Britain's biggest race

Tinkoff-Saxo will be led at the Tour of Britain by Irishman Nicolas Roche as they look to achieve double success in September as Alberto Contador’s Vuelta bid continues.

Roche has already won the Route du Sud this season, and put in a number of strong rides in the break at the Giro d’Italia too.

He is certainly among the contenders for the summit finish on The Tumble and, if he can put some time into his GC rivals there it could certainly prove to be a decisive stage.

This time last year, Roche – in what his debut season for Tinkoff-Saxo – was finishing fifth at the Vuelta a Espana having won a stage and briefly worn the red jersey too.

He is certainly more than capable of finishing his year on a similar high and proving his worth as a team leader with success at the Tour of Britain too.
