The Tour de France has a long and colourful history but few could have predicted the chaos which descended on stage one of the 100th edition.
The Orica-GreenEDGE bus, late arriving in Bastia, wedged itself under the finish line gantry with the peloton less than 20km away and the race about to reach its crescendo.
That prompted the race organisers to move the finish three kilometres down the road, only for the original finish line to be reinstated after the bus freed itself. However, as the red-faced driver reversed his bus off the course, a huge crash brought down a host of riders.
