Yoga is an extremely beneficial practice for cyclists, both from a physical and mental perspective. If practiced regularly it improves flexibility, concentration and self-awareness. As cyclists we experience numerous tight muscles which lead to imbalances in the body and increase the risk of injury.
The yoga session is designed especially for cyclists and lead by qualified yoga teacher and cyclist Karen Burt who currently is running a column in Cycling Plus! Cyclists typically experience tight hamstrings and hip flexors which can place strain on the lower back. Yoga helps address these imbalances so that you can keep healthier for longer and minimise the effects of injuries.
The emphasis of the yoga session is on building core strength and increasing the flexibility of the quads, hamstrings, lower back as well as postures for the shoulders, knees and ankles, all combined with breathing techniques and instruction on body, breath and mind awareness – invaluable for improving concentration on long rides and competitions.
The yoga session will be followed by a tasty healthy organic lunch, a cycle ride and a post-ride stretch session and refreshments. You can even have a sports massage at the end of the day (as an optional extra – July workshop only). Time is 12 til 6:30PM.
The workshops are suitable for mountain bikers and road cyclists alike who want to learn how to stretch. The workshops are suitable for individuals and couples and both mountain bike and road rides are offered, which will be adapted to suit the skill level of the cyclist.
The cost of the workshop is now £45, and a further discount is available for booking 2 or more places. (Note the workshop on 21st May was an introductory offer). A further workshop is cheduled for the 20th august.
The yoga/cycling workshop includes:
• 2 hour yoga session designed for cyclists
• Organic lunch
