Tim Wellens (Lotto-Belisol) had already marked himself as a man to keep a close eye on after his two second-place finishes at the Giro d’Italia this year.
And the Belgian 23-year-old ensured his name will be one to watch very closely next season after sealing overall victory at the Eneco Tour – the first overall win of his career.
It came on the back of a solo victory on stage six, and means Wellens becomes the first man since Philippe Gilbert to win a WorldTour stage race for the Lotto team.
Meanwhile, fellow 23-year-old Belgian Guillaume van Keirsbulck (Omega Pharma-Quickstep) was also celebrating after soloing to the stage win – his maiden WorldTour victory after success in his home country earlier this year.
