Raleigh-GAC and JLT-Condor have been belatedly added to the Tour de Yorkshire team list, ensuring the full complement of British UCI Continental teams will start the race in May.
The initial announcement of the 16 teams set to take part in the race included Team WIGGINS, One Pro Cycling, NFTO and Madison-Genesis but not Britain’s two longest-serving UCI Continental outfits.
Organisers today announced the two would be invited after all, however, meaning there will be 18 teams on the Scarborough start line on Friday May 1.
Alongside Team Sky and a Great Britain national team, Britain’s newest UCI Europe Tour event will now boast six British teams, while Yorkshire favourite Russ Downing will hope to book a place in Cult Energy Pro Cycling’s squad for the 2.1-classified race.
Marcel Kittel (Giant-Alpecin) and Sir Bradley Wiggins, who will have completed his switch from Sky to his new UCI Continental team, have already been confirmed for the race with the full line-ups set to be announced next month.
Responding to the announcement, Condor-JLT boss John Herety said: “We are delighted to be reconsidered for the inaugural event and can’t wait to get racing in the North York Moors.”
