Strava Challenges: ride with the Giro d’Italia pros

Strava calls on riders to climb 6,000m in May to celebrate the season's first Grand Tour

Strava is calling on cyclists to ‘ride with the pros during the 2015 Giro d’Italia’ for one of its latest monthly challenges.

The route-mapping and tracking app is calling on cyclists to climb 6,000m – 1,000m for each of the six summit finishes at this year’s Corsa Rosa, which rolls out of San Lorenzo al Mare on Saturday May 9.

And riders wishing to complete the challenge must do so between the start of the season’s first Grand Tour on May 9 and its Milan conclusion on May 31.

Finishers will receive a digital finisher’s badge and also unlock the opportunity to purchase the unique, pink finisher’s only jersey pictured above – inspired, of course, by the prize the likes of Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo) and in-form Richie Porte (Team Sky) will be competing for.

Riders hoping to take the challenge to another level could also aim to climb 44,000m in the 22 days – mirroring what the Giro riders will be suffering in the same period.

May’s challenges also include the Gran Fondo 100 – the challenge to complete a 100km ride at any time in May – and the May Monthly Training Series, which calls on users to set their own target distance for the month and helps you plot your progress.

Challenges just ending, include the Specialized Spring Classics Challenge, which had called on riders to ride 1,225km in 40 days – the total combined distance of April’s five Spring Classics.
