Pro bike: Ian Stannard’s Team Sky Pinarello Dogma F8

Shimano showcase Yogi's bike at iceBike trade show

Team Sky’s Pinarello Dogma F8 team bikes have had a cosmetic makeover for 2016, with the addition of blue and white decals on the seattube, seatstays and front fork.

And while the bike essentially remains the same as the machine on which Chris Froome won the 2015 Tour de France – Shimano Dura-Ace groupset and wheels, and PRO cockpit – the new paintjob makes for a very striking new bike.

Having been retained as sponsors, Shimano are understandably keen to shout about it too – and they had one of Team Sky’s bikes on display at iceBike* – Madison’s annual showcase of all the brands they distribute.

The one on display was an exact replica of the bike ridden by former British champion Ian Stannard, who was among Geraint Thomas’ team-mates as the Welshman claimed Volta ao Algarve victory for the second year running this month.

So we swung by to take a closer look at the machine ‘Yogi’ will be riding in 2016 – check it out in the gallery below and stay tuned for more highlights from iceBike*.

Team Sky’s classy new blue, black and white colourway adorns the frame of the Dogma F8
Pinarello’s partner, Toray, gave the Italian bike manufacturer exclusive rights to their T1100 1K carbon fibre blend for the Dogma F8, which launched in 2014
The bike on show in Milton Keynes was an exact version of Stannard’s bike, dressed in full Shimano Dura-Ace Di2
Shimano subsidary PRO supply the cockpit – the brand have launched a Team Sky stem and bar, with the blue stripe, for customers who want to ride Team Sky kit without forking out for a Pinarello
One slight omission on the showbike, and the bike Stannard is riding in the world’s biggest races, however, was the absence of Team Sky’s blue stripe on the PRO handlebar
Garmin are another brand distributed by Madison, and another brand used by Team Sky – without the need for full mapping, the Garmin Edge 510 is perfect for the pro riders on race day
The blue, black and white colourway expands to the front fork. The curved shapes are nowhere near as dramatic as the Pinarello Dogma 65.1 Think 2
Shimano also provide the wheelset, in the form of their Dura-Ace C50s
Stannard is one of eight Brits on Team Sky’s roster for 2016, and one of five to have been with the team since its introduction
Stannard, who is nicknamed ‘Yogi’ by his team-mates, uses Fizik’s Antares saddle with Wing-Flex technology
There are plenty of nods to aerodynamics on the Dogma F8, like the super-skinny, aero-profiled seat tube
An integrated seatpost clamp also keeps things nice and aero
The Pinarello Dogma F8 was designed in conjunction with Jaguar, and has been Team Sky’s bike of choice since 2014. Team Sky and Jaguar parted company in the winter, however.
Custom-made Elite bottle cages complete the get-up, and on race day you can also expect to see a Stages power meter. Should Stannard play a leading role in Team Sky’s Classics squad in 2016 though, you can expect to see him swap for the cobble-busting Pinarello Dogma K8-S this spring.
