The months that mark the transition of winter to spring can be a challenging time for the cyclist keen to stay warm and dry without overheating.
We’ll be looking at various options from Endura, Pearl Izumi, and Rapha this month to get you through the change of seasons.
Endura’s Thermo Roubaix glove promises breathable warmth, a welcome combination during a period in which temperatures have veered from below zero to nudging double figures in the space of days.
The back is constructed from stretchy Thermolite to the thumb, which is made from a terry fabric. The palm is suede and printed with a silicone honeycombe pattern for grip. The pattern also features on the tips of the index and middle fingers.
We asked Endura for a small size and they duly obliged. This is a sleek, close fitting glove, fleece lined, with a high cuff designed to fit under jacket sleeves. A narrow aperture delivers a snug fit.
The Equipe Thermo Bib-knickers come from Endura’s flagship range.
Fleece lined, with waterproof panels in the seat, this is a garment for conditions that are chilled, but not sufficiently biting to necessitate a full-length tight. The rear of the bib is made from a breathable mesh, while at the front, a short zip holds an unlined panel against the stomach. Endura say the moulded pad has been developed in conjunction with the Endura Racing squad. Elasticated grippers stop the legs from riding up.
The FS260-Pro Roubaix jacket is another snug fitting item, with an ‘athletic’ cut suitable for the slimmer rider. Lined with fleecy Roubaix fabric as the name suggests, but silky to the touch on the exterior, it has a full-length zip, and three pockets on the rear, with a side zip on the right-side pocket.
We’ll be testing the gloves, jacket and bib knicks in February, so check back for full reviews.
