Oakley announced this week that it has become an official partner of Team Sky, which means the company will supply Bradley Wiggins and team mates with eyewear for the 2010/11 season.

The US company has a history of supplying leading sports people with eyewear since the launch of its first model, the O-Frame, in 1980. Gred Lemond famously wore the iconic Eyeshade’s to victory and there was of course Lance Armstrong’s long stint of Tour de France wins in a pair of M-Frame shades.

Oakley Sports Marketing Manager, Gary McQuaid says: “Team Sky is a very exciting project to be involved with. We are looking forward to working closely with this elite team and helping them to achieve their goals by supplying performance optics that address their specific expectations and needs. With some incredible riders and a solid support team in place they have all the components for a successful 2010”.

“We’re very exited to start a partnership with Oakley as we take on our first season on the ProTour. Oakley is a market leader and collaborating with them means our riders and staff will have the best available technology at their disposal in any type of condition on the roads,” added Team Principal Dave Brailsford.

Team Sky will line up in Oakley Jawbone or Oakley Radar sport performance models in custom team colours.

And to let us see what the Jawbones in question look like, Oakley UK were good enough to send us a pair to test – more on those soon.
