The first Bike Friday cycle to work ride in 2010 takes place on Friday 29 January.
The Bike Friday cycling campaign will be supporting and encouraging people across Greater Manchester to try cycling to work for two days a month during 2010, a measure which could, they claim, reduce their travel to work C02 emissions by 10% over the year.
Already Oldham, Manchester, Rochdale, Tameside and Wigan councils have signed up to the national 10:10 project and will be encouraging individuals and local businesses and organisations to reduce their emissions by 10% during 2010.
Katy Carlisle who cycles to work from Withington said: “Instead of driving or catching the bus, cycling to work, school or college just two days a month will cut your transport C02 emissions by approx 10%. Just think, no more boring trips to the gym – by cycling as part of their daily commute people can save money, feel fitter and reduce their C02 emissions.”
Bike Friday combines a range of cycle rides into the City Centre from various locations as well as working with companies and local authorities in Greater Manchester to promote cycling, improve cycle facilities and to encourage more people to continue cycling to school, work and for leisure all year round.
