If bling’s your thing then Lightweight have given their Obermayer wheels a gold makeover – with only 99 sets available.
Lightweight Obermayer tubular wheels have 53mm-deep carbon fibre rims, with high-end hubs from DT Swiss running with ceramic bearings, and 16/20 carbon spokes, with a total weight of just 985g (420g front/565g rear). They’re suitable for riders weighing up to 100kg, but no more.
“As it’s impossible to improve on the performance of the Obermayer, we decided to take an already incredible wheelset and add a ‘gold crown’ to the top of it,” boasts Lightweight’s press release.
Four spokes on each wheel, the signature of Lightweight founder Heinz Obermayer signature on the rim and the wheelset’s serial number all get a gold finish, with a duraflon polymer coating to protect it. Each owner will also be invited to take a tour of the Lightweight factory tour, where you’ll meet Obermayer. Guests will also be invited to the Lightweight booth at the Eurobike show this summer.
The wheels come with titanium quick release skewers, four brake pads, two valve extensions and a special edition wheel bag with a gold Obermayer signature. The freehub is easily interchangeable to accommodate Shimano/SRAM and Campagnolo cassettes.
So how much does that kind of exclusively cost? Well, not much north of the Obermayer’s regular £3,749 retail price, with a gold set removing £3,999 from your bank account.
