Condor are to sell an exclusive Save the Velodrome cap – with proceeds going directly towards the campaign to support Herne Hill’s famous track.
The campaign was launched in September 2010 after the track, the last remaining finals venue from the 1948 Olympic Games, faced closure after falling into disrepair through a lack of funds.
And the fight paid dividends, with Herne Hill’s future secured in March, when British Cycling and the Dulwich Estate signed a 15-year lease for the site, with the track due to resurfaced in the summer.
But fundraising continues to further develop the track, with this limited edition cap, created by Condor and campaign designer Carl Ison, available to buy for £8.99 through www.condorcycles.com
The 100 per cent cotton cap, made in Italy, features a World Championship ribbon stitched along the middle, with a thick elastic fastener for a perfect fit and fully bound seams.
“The Herne Hill Velodrome is close to our hearts here at Condor,” said Grant Young of Condor Cycles. “Our shop opened in 1948, the year the track was a venue for the London Olympics, and the velodrome has seen many a Condor sponsored rider find victory, from Bradley Wiggins to 60’s Tour de France riders Colin Lewis and Dave Bonner.
“Herne Hill is the perfect place for Londonders to learn how to ride the track and an ideal place to educate children about sport.”
Hillary Peachey, chair of the Herne Hill Velodrome Trust, added: “We are absolutely delighted to have the support of such a well respected cycling brand as Condor.
“We’ve had thousands of people ask how they can help and support what we’re doing, and now they can wear this special edition cap with pride.”
