2007 Tour de France champion Alberto Contador is staring victory in the face in this year’s race, following a devastating turn of speed on stage 15’s final climb to the summit of Verbier. And he’s doing so aboard a custom Trek Madone. Well, custom bikes are all the rage this year so it’s only right the 26-year-old should get his own signature bike too.

Alberto is riding the brand new Trek Madone 6, which has been redesigned for 2010 to be stiffer and lighter than the current Madone (which will be rebadged the Madone 5 next year). The 890g frame has been finished with a special paint scheme for the Spanish rider, with the colours (yellow, pink and gold) of the three Grand Tour jerseys he has won used on several little graphic details, including his name along the chainstays. There’s also a nod towards the customary ‘pistol victory salute’ that Alberto favours, with silver patterns on the top tube.

Some last minute prep before the stage

Hanging off the frame is of course a full SRAM RED groupset but unlike the version which we can buy in the shops, Contador’s has been given some special treatment. The rear derailleur cage has been painted white to match the white of the frame and fork, the insides of the brake levers have also been painted white and there’s bigger bolder graphics on the front of the levers.

Elsewhere on the bike Alberto chooses a Selle Italia Team Edition SLR saddle matched to a white seatpost which has his surname printed on, along with a white Bontrager 120mm carbon stem and carbon handlebars. Wheels are Bontrager Race XXX Lite carbon tubulars. White bar tape completes the package.
