Santini is a clothing brand familiar to many cyclists, particularly to those who follow the UCI WorldTour.
Fans glued to coverage of the Giro d’Italia last month will be especially familiar with their work. As supplier of the legendary maglia rosa, they provided the pink leader’s jersey to overall winner, Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin-Barracuda).
And in their role as kit provider to Katusha and Vacansoleil-DCM, they completed a clean sweep of the final podium, with their logo brandished on the chest of runner up, Joaquim Rodriguez, and third-placed Thomas de Gendt.
The Santini story is an interesting one: a rags to riches tale with a quintessentially Italian flavour. There’s a flavour here in two short films.
In the first, the viewer is given an overview of life at the factory in Bergamo, where the garments are made.
The second video gives a step-by-step guide to the manufacturing process, from modeling a prototype jersey on a rider, through cutting, printing, hand stitching, and packaging.
Expect to see more of the their kit in next month’s Tour de France, when Katusha and Vacansoleil-DCM will again be wearing it.
