With the Tour de France looming and summer holiday season on the horizon, two of last year’s bestselling cycling books have been updated to include new material.

Ned Boulting’s debut book, How I Won the Yellow Jumper: Dispatches from the Tour de France, recalls Boulting’s trials and tribulations after being thrown into reporting on the world’s biggest cycling race – despite knowing nothing about the sport. The ITV reporter is now one of the most familiar faces in the sport after nearly ten years on our television screens.

The book, an entertaining and light hearted read which covers everything from Boulting’s up-close-and-personal encounters with Lance Armstrong to his bewildered mishaps with the local cuisine, offers an alternative slant on life on Tour. The updated book includes a 65-page chapter from last year’s Tour called How Cav Won the Green Jersey.

Meanwhile, Richard Moore’s Slaying the Badger: Lemond, Hinault and the Greatest Ever Tour de France includes a 19-page afterword which discusses the subtitle of the book. Was 1986 really the greatest ever Tour de France?

That aside, the book dissects the rivalry between Greg LeMond and Bernard Hinault at the race. The fresh-faced, prodigious newcomer versus the aggressive, head-strong, five-time winner of the Tour who had pledged to support his team-mate LeMond.
