Wheels in Wheels CC, organisers of the Forest of Dean Classic and Ride to the Horns sportives, are pleased to announce a new sportive for Cambridgeshire taking in the best and hilliest roads in the region.
Based in the very picturesque town of St Ives and taking place on Sunday 26th July, this 100 miler will test rider’s legs as you will find that Cambridgeshire and the adjacent Counties are not as flat as the most people think.
The route goes north to Stamford and across to Corby where feed stops will keep the riders well nourished. The route continues to roll up and down for nearly all of the 100-plus miles and the rest is even steeper. According to the organisers, the route shouldn’t be taken lightly and is a good test of anyone’s fitness.
The ride will be fully signed and have a back up vehicle. Optional timing is available. Each rider will have bike and personal numbers for identification and to assist the event photographer. Event sponsors have supplied a goody bag worth over £15 plus post-ride food.
There is also a 10 mile family ride which will be around the St Ives area and will take in the cycle ways through the adjacent villages. The town will welcome all visitors and is a perfect day out by the river for all the family. Cambridge is also only 16 miles down the road for even more sightseeing and shopping.
The start and finish for all rides, outside the St Ives Richardson’s shop, is only 70 miles from London, Leicester and Coventry and only 100miles from Birmingham and Norwich areas.
The entry fee includes a charity donation to the Wheels in Wheels CC 2009 charity, the Geoff Thomas Foundation – supporting people tackling cancer. Entries are restricted to 400 so early entry is advised.
