Arundel Stainless Steel bottle cage $25 (about £15)
There are bottle cages and then there’s Arundel’s elegant Stainless Steel cage, a modern twist on a timeless classic.
Arundel, a small US outfit, started out making top-notch carbon bottle cages but wisely realised that not everyone wants a cage made from carbon, nor wants to pay the high price the material demands, and so produced the Stainless Steel. It features a curved shape seen on their carbon cages, with ‘wing’ shaped sides and a small retaining loop at the base. The Arundel logo is embossed on the base plate.
Happily, it does an excellent job of clasping bottles, just as well as the company’s carbon cages, and the fit can be tweaked by gently bending the metal cage if needed. 4.2mm stainless steel tubes keep the weight down and there is only a slight weight penalty over one made from carbon.
Verdict
Arundel’s Stainless Steel bottle cage is an elegant and simple cage for securely holding your bottles in place, and is the perfect accompaniment for a steel bicycle. However, they don’t look out of place on something a little more modern and carbon.
