Bianchi unveil Oltre XR – 20 per cent stiffer and 30g lighter

Bianchi have unveiled the Oltre XR in Pau on the second rest day of the Tour de France, promising a 20 per cent improvement in stiffness and 30g reduction in weight over the existing Oltre model.

The new top-of-the-range frameset boasts a claimed weight of 895g (+/- five per cent) for a size 55cm. It’s unashamedly a machine for racing, designed, according to Bianchi, for extreme performance.

“Its increased rigidity and Bianchi’s unique racing geometry are combined to provide fast acceleration, maximum power transmission and enhanced handling,” claim the Italian manufacturer.

The weight reduction and improved stiffness are achieved with a combination of ‘Ultra High Modulus carbon fibres’ labelled UMS40 and CN60. Other features on the monocoque frame include a BB30 bottom bracket, a massive downtube and chainstays, a tapered headtube (1 1/8″ – 1.5″), internal cable routing, and Bianchi’s Ultra Thin seat stays.

The frame comes with a dedicated seatpost system (weight 195g) which is designed to integrate with the frame’s seat tube. The seatpost has an aero profile, as does the winged fork (355g).

Seven sizes (47-50-53-55-57-59-61) will be available in seven builds: four electronic (Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 and Ultrega Di2, and Campagnolo Super Record EPS and Athena EPS) and three mechanical (Campagnolo Super Record, Shimano Dura-Ace and SRAM Red). UK prices are to be confirmed.
