Earlier this week there was much hoo-har as news broke of Lance Armstrong’s custom Trek TTX bicycle, along with three other team bicycles, being stolen from a team van while the athletes slept soundly in their hotel while taking part in the Tour of California.
On Wednesday 1 February a local resident brought Lance Armstrong’s stolen Trek bicycle to Sacramento Police headquarters. Detectives confirmed that the bike was in fact Armstrong’s stolen bicycle. The citizen wishes to remain anonymous. The facts surrounding how the person came into possession of the bicycle are not being released at this time due to an ongoing investigation.
The bicycle is currently in the care of the Police Department and arrangements will be made to return the bicycle to the owner. Armstrong commented on this break through via his Twitter page, saying: “Oh!! And they recovered the bike! Don’t have details yet but it’s apparently on it’s way here. Thanks to the Sacramento P D for the help!”
Four bicycles were stolen from the back of a truck which contained 26 bicycles. The thieves cut an exterior lock which secured the bicycles inside the truck. Armstrong broke the news through Twitter, saying “Whoa!! They just came to my room and said our truck was broken into and someone stole my time trial bike! Wtf?!? APB out to the twitterati.”
