Coaching sessions for women

These women’s only coaching/training sessions are ideal if you currently race or plan to race next year, or if you planned to race this summer but somehow missed out making a start.
The days are also ideal for Junior and Youth (U16 and U14) riders looking to train in a supportive group environment.

The new dates are:

  • Sunday 4th November
  • Sunday 9 December

    About Hillingdon circuit

Hillingdon is a purpose-built, car-free circuit, so there is no problem with on-coming traffic. It has a Tarmac surface and is about 0.9mile in length.

The circuit loop includes a straight (often into a headwind), a mild drag (that goes on) and a short fast descent followed by a tight corner (one that you can pedal round and get an advantage over riders who lack the nerve to push forward and who opt to freewheel instead).

    The sessions:

These sessions are a continuation of last winter’s coaching sessions, the first two supported by SheCycles.com and the following two by Surrey Cycle Racing League/Power Pack.

They all had a common purpose of getting you fit and ready for racing with a combination of group riding and exercises containing elements of “flat out” effort. Each day will include:

  • warm-up
  • laps with sprints (so comparable to a points race)
  • a three-lap race
  • through-and-off group practice and coaching
  • 30-min break
  • skills session
  • two short races, each with different format
  • through-and-off technique practice

Assemble at 11.00am onwards to be on the track at 11.30am for the morning session. There will be a break for lunch (bring your own) from 1-1.30pm followed by the afternoon session until 3pm. This will hopefully allow a total of 3 hours riding, but could possibly be trimmed back in the case of particularly bad weather.

    Additional news

If you’ve not been to Hillingdon for a month or two, then the news is that the adjoining site has been developed by Goals, the operator who runs five-a-side football on mini-pitches all wrapped up within high netting boders.

Cyclists can share in the Goals facilities, which include changing rooms, toilets, showers and drinks…including strong alcohol (should you wish to go on a blinder). Beware though the floors are slippery and you are advised to remove cycling shoes!
