With the taste of champagne still fresh from his hundredth victory, Mark Cavendish turned his attention to capturing the hundred and first in the Giro d’Italia.
Victory in Cherasco came largely as a result of his own efforts, and to watch him barge his way into spaces, and dart from the wheels of his rivals was to watch the world’s best in his natural environment.
His OPQS team-mates rode at the front for much of the day, but when the chips went down in the closing kilometres, Cavendish was left to fend for himself. He didn’t seem to mind.
