Arnaud Démare continued to display a maturity beyond his years by winning the fourth stage of the 2013 Tour de Suisse.
The 21-year-old had already claimed overall victory this season in the Four Days of Dunkirk and when confronted by the formidable sprinting talents of Matt Goss, Tyler Farrar, and John Degenkolb, all Grand Tour stage winners, refused to be cowed.
Incredibly for a rider so young, today’s triumph was not Démare’s debut victory in cycling’s elite UCI WorldTour.
The Frenchman won the sixth stage of last year’s Tour of Qatar at the age of just 20 – an impressive feat.
With the fifth stage of the 2013 Tour de Suisse looking like another gift to the sprinters, Démare could well feature at the sharp end again.
