Mont Ventoux – one of the most infamous climbs in the long history of the Tour de France – was always set to be one of the key battlegrounds in the 100th edition of the race.
And it was Chris Froome (Team Sky) who claimed victory on stage 15, to go some way to winning the war by extending his overall lead at the top of the general classification with six stages remaining.
Froome beat Nairo Quintana (Movistar) to the summit of the Giant of Provence and now leads Bauke Mollema (Belkin Pro Cycling) by four minutes and 14 seconds in the overall standings.
