Cannondale presented Peter Sagan with a custom Hulk-themed SuperSix Evo for the Tour de France – a nod to the Slovak sensation’s comic book celebration after winning stage six of last year’s race.
Stage seven winner Sagan has taken a Hulk-like grip on the green jersey and we gave you a sneak peek at that machine as the race got underway, so instead let’s take a closer look at the 23-year-old’s team issue spare bike – the one a mechanic would pull from the team car in the event of the mechanical, and, on the face of it, the same machine being ridden by the rest of his Cannondale Pro Cycling team-mates.
Like Sagan’s Hulk machine, it’s a Cannondale SuperSix Evo Hi-Mod. Sagan rode the American firm’s new Synapse Hi-Mod comfort bike through the Classics season but is now back on the lighter, racier SuperSix Evo Hi-Mod.
If the team’s SuperSix looks different to what you’ve seen before, that’s because it’s in a new 2014 colourway. While the old paintjob was predominantly white with flashes of green and blue, this new livery loses the blue and has a healthy dose of black. We like it.
The frame is one of the lightest on the market, with a claimed weight of less than 700g. It’s a bike designed to be ridden uphill fast, but Cannondale say their BallisTec carbon construction has allowed them to achieve that low weight without sacrificing the stiffness required to harness Sagan’s sprints.
Sagan doesn’t ride an off-the-peg frame. Instead, Cannondale have produced a custom geometry for him, with a 58cm toptube and 54cm seattube. Otherwise it’s a team issue setup, with beautifully colour-matched SRAM Red components, save for the Cannondale Hollowgram Si SL cranks, and Vision Metron 55 wheels, Kenda Super Domestique tubular tyres, FSA finishing kit, a Fizik Aliante saddle and green Speedplay Zero Nanogram pedals.
