Italian cycling star and double Giro d’Italia winner Gilberto Simoni is the latest Pro Tour road rider confirmed for the next round of Revolution at the Manchester Velodrome.
Simoni finished his road season early this year to ride competitively in mountain bike; so competitively that he was recently crowned Italian Marathon Mountain Bike Champion. The Italian star will now switch discipline again and make the trip to Manchester on November 18th to join team mate David Millar on the track.
With more road pros lined up to join Bradley Wiggins and Roger Hammond the next Revolution will include an exciting blend of track and road riders, “it will provide a unique opportunity to see some top road riders on the track” commented James Pope from Face Partnership.
“With many of the British Olympic Podium squad training in Australia we wanted to bring in some road stars to race against the strong field of domestic track riders we have in the UK. The combination will make the racing unpredictable and exciting and we are delighted to have a rider like Simoni at the event.”
The road pros will face tough opposition from the British track specialists with experienced riders such as Tony Gibb and James Taylor and junior stars such as Junior Points Champion Peter Kennaugh likely to push the pace in front of the home crowd.
