Scotland’s teen track star Katie Archibald returns to the Great Britain squad for the second round of the 2013/14 UCI Track World Cup, which will take place in Aguascalientes, Mexico, from December 5 to December 7.
Archibald,19, won silver in the scratch race and bronze in the individual pursuit while representing Scotland’s Braveheart team at the opening round of the World Cup in Manchester earlier this month.
She had previously rode in the world record-breaking team pursuit squad that won European Championship gold in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, and returns to the British endurance team for next month’s event.
After an strong start to the season in Manchester, where Great Britain earned eight medals, including four golds, to lead the series overall, British Cycling have named a largely-unchanged squad.
Archibald is the only addition, while Vicky Williamson, who won silver with Becky James in the women’s team sprint in Manchester, and Andy Tennant, who won team pursuit gold and finished sixth in the individual pursuit, are not included.
Performance manager Shane Sutton said of the selection: “The World Cup in Manchester has given us a steady start to the season – we got some good results there and it also highlighted some aspects the team needs to work on.
“We’re keen to build on that in the next round and earn as many qualifying points for the World Championships as we can so we’re sending a strong squad over to Mexico for the next round.”
