Simon Spilak (Katusha) and Team Sky leader Chris Froome have history at the Tour de Romandie.
Rewind almost exactly a year and the pair found themselves far ahead of the chasing pack, contesting a summit finish. Twelve months ago, the duel was played out on stage four and with Froome obviously unconcerned by the stage victory, gifting the win to the Slovenian.
This year, however, and with an injury-hit spring campaign from which to recover, victory seemed to matter more to Froome, but the outcome was the same, despite the best efforts of the Tour de France champion.
For both riders, the breakaway paid dividends. Spilak claimed the yellow jersey as well as the stage win and Froome put over a minute into fellow pre-race favourites, Rui Costa (Lampre-Merida) and Vincenzo Nibali (Astana).
Official UCI WorldTour photographer, Stefano Sirotti, was on hand to capture all the action from the road to Aigle.
