Giro d’Italia 2014: stage three – photo gallery

Stefano Sirotti captures the action as Marcel Kittel wins in Dublin

Once again the rain could not dampen spirits as fans lined roads from Armagh to Dublin to welcome the Giro d’Italia’s Irish stage.

Won in Dublin by Marcel Kittel (Giant-Shimano), the stage ended three great days on the Emerald Isle – with the German having enjoyed them even more so thanks to his two stage wins.

Though widely expected to win the two stages, the manner of his success was a further reminder of just how fast the big sprinter is with the Tour de France – and a battle with Mark Cavendish and Andre Greipel – to come.

For now, however, Kittel celebrated his 26th birthday with a big win and retained the red jersey in the process.
