Here’s the photo British cycling fans have been waiting for – world road race champion Mark Cavendish showing off his Team Sky rainbow jersey ahead of a New Year’s Day training ride.
While Cavendish’s long-awaited transfer to Team Sky was confirmed back in October, the turn of the year marks when riders’ contracts officially switch from old employer to new, so they can start wearing their new kit.
And Cavendish wasted little time in pulling on his Sky colours, while also trading the trusty Specialized McLaren Venge that propelled him to the Tour de France green jersey and World Championship victory for the British team’s Pinarello Dogma 2.
The recently-crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year isn’t the only rider showing off new team kit on Twitter, with Marco Pinotti in BMC colours and Cavendish’s former leadout man Mark Renshaw wearing Rabobank’s trademark orange, blue and white in an official team photo.
