Veteran Spaniard Juan Antonio Flecha climbed off the bike for the final time as a professional at the Tour of Beijing in October.

Typically, having spent much of his final season with Vacansoleil-DCM trying to get into breaks, it ended with him forming part of a five-man escape in the Chinese capital.

We caught up with “the Spanish Flandrian’, an archetypal cycling hardman, to discuss his final day in the saddle, and reflect on a career which saw him fall in love with the cobbles of Roubaix, and in 2010 become a key member of a new team – Sky Pro Cycling.
