Weight training… Chris Hoy style

With just 220 days until the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games, how is Sir Chris Hoy preparing for his triple sprint title defence? With five leg press reps at 631kg, of course!

Sir Chris, who won sprint, team sprint and keirin gold in Beijing to add to his kilo gold from Athens, posted this picture of him leg pressing a shed load of weight – plus team-mate Ross Edgar – on his Twitter page, leaving both cycling fans and regular punters open-mouthed and sparking a frenzy of comments on RCUK’s Facebook page.

“In response to the questions re leg press it was 631kg for 5 reps,” said Hoy. “Could have squeezed out a rep more if Ross hadn’t been laughing at me!”

So there you go. That’s what it takes to become Great Britain’s best ever track cyclist…
