The common floor, stirrup or track pump is an almost indispensable part of any serious cyclist’s toolkit. The daily top-up, occasional tyre swaps and getting tyres to precisely the right pressure for racing – or commuting – are all made quick and easy by a good one.
The Airace Infinity Turbo – or Tubo as it says on the barrel – scores an immediate hit with its automatic chuck, which is designed to fit both Schrader and Presta valves without the need to fiddle around with grommets and spacers. Press the chuck onto either type of valve, flip the lever and the pump is good to go. The chuck also incorporates an air release valve to allow easy leak down to a preferred pressure.
The gauge is mounted high on the barrel for ease of reading and has a dial pointer to ensure quick and accurate inflation to a set pressure. The long hose drops from the underside of the gauge and for easy storage can be looped around a hook near the base while the chuck end is held near the handle.
Rubber grips soften the discomfort of inflation up to a maximum of 160psi and the pump has a broad, pressed steel foot for a stable pumping platform.
The looks are a bit busy and cluttered but construction feels sturdy and inflation is smooth, quick and easy up to 140psi and probably right up to the rated maximum.
Durable? We’ll see after six months or so…
