It’s fitment time for the American Classic seat post; time to find out whether the infinitely adjustable cradle makes precise adjustment a doddle or a doodle. The good news is that assembling the three-piece clamp is easy-peasy; place the forged rail support on the curved top of the post, rest the saddle rails on it and, lifting each side in turn, hook the little clamp piece over its rail. Then simply install the 4mm head Allen bolt and tighten, pulling the support down onto the post and locking the whole lot securely in place.
There isn’t any bad news, but it needs noting that the assembly does not move around easily even with the bolt removed; the support sits firmly on the post and needs firm handling to get it to move around, which in turn hinders accuracy.
As ever with such things, patience does the trick and, once in place, the saddle really is secure.

One other point to note: the design allows a little lateral adjustment of the saddle, perhaps to compensate for leg length discrepancy or similar. This means it is a good idea after tightening to check the saddle is, in fact, laterally level since it might not be. A quick glance to check the sides are aligned with the ‘bars does the trick.
And the immediate result? There is good degree is flex in the post to go with the security of the clamp; expect enhanced ride comfort. We’ll see…
