Here we have a cycling hat designed along the lines of the sort of hat favoured by skiers. Maybe it is as good a skiing hat as it is a cycling hat. It is a good hat for cycling in very cold weather, offering plenty of insulation – around 80percent of maximum potential if the BioRacer graphic is properly understood – and a snug fit.
There are two possible reservations: it is perhaps 10mm shorter from apex to hem than it might be to fit to perfection the tester’s large cranium and, lacking a peak, it is not much use when snow is actually falling. A cloth road cap can, of course, be worn underneath to provide the required peak.
It does look the part, the graphics setting off nicely whichever of the three colours – black, white or blue – is worn. The acrylic knit stays elastic long after it is pulled on and, if white gets grimy quickly, it washes up beautifully. And the hat wears well off the bike.
